CHRISTMAS IN CHINA WITH TEARS

Chinese authorities are setting quotas on the number of Christians that must be arrested and are threatening police officers with dismissal if they don’t meet the minimum standards, according to a magazine that monitors religious freedom in the country. Under President Xi Jinping (2013- ), the Chinese government has embarked on a 3-phase, 14-year plan to gain total control over Christianity in China. BillionBibles.com gives us an insight into previous harsh treatment of Christians by the Chinese authorities : It is rising sharply, and the current Christian persecution in China is more sophisticated and multi-faceted than in the past, whose mainstay was brute force. Until the 1990s, when the Chinese government discovered an underground church , its members were beaten or fined while their leaders were arrested, tortured, sent to labor camps, killed or simply disappeared. The government also restricted the availability of Bibles (see Amity printing and Project Pearl ). Under Hu Jinta

MISSIONARY HOMELESSNESS- WHEN NO PLACE FEELS LIKE HOME

C.   A n d e r s o n We recently visited America. Though I was born in Nigeria, my passport says I am an American. I love my country. But I have never felt like a “real” American. As our time back in the USA was drawing to a close, someone asked me, “Are you going home next week?” That is a hard question to answer. Where is home anyhow? Is it where I now live on the mission field (Asia)? Is it my passport country? They both feel like home. Neither of them feels like home. This feels like a kind of “homelessness.” This never quite fulfilled longing for home, is a type of missionary loneliness. It is a tough cross to bear. WE DON’T FIT ANYWHERE As missionaries do you ever feel as if you don’t “fit” in? You are not fully a part of your new culture. You are no longer at home in your old culture either. God wants to use these missionary life challenges to draw us deeper and closer. He wants to turn difficulty into a disguised blessing. The sense of never being at home pushes us toward

THE CLUELESS CHURCH

By   D a v i d     P a m     M c Q u e l Thanks to the Collins online dictionary. clueless. (kluːləs ) adjective. If you describe someone as clueless, you are showing your disapproval of the fact that they do not know anything about a particular subject or that they are incapable of doing a particular thing properly. It seems to be an insult or rather too harsh to accuse someone of been clueless. Don’t even dare use it against the church. If there is an exposed wire in my electrical wiring of my house, it will spark every time both naked wires have contact. If I don’t know what to do next, no matter how many degrees I have acquired from Cambridge or Oxford Universities, it will be safe to say I was clueless. Many parents don’t really know what to do as first aid treatment for their kids. So if your kid has a high fever in the middle of the night at home and you have no access to medical care, you may become frantic, desperate and panic because you are clueless.

THE PROFIT

D a v i d    P a m   M c Q u e l Our world is so obsessed with gain. Everything has to have some gain attached to it. So much that someone can be in a crowd of ten thousand adults and be so lonely. Gain in itself is not a bad thing. It is natural for man to seek gratification. A footballer wants to score the goal. A farmer wants to reap ample harvest. A student wants to score 100%. The market woman wants to multiply her capital. And a parent wants to see his kids become influential men and women. And when the goal is scored, when sheaves come in, when the scripts come with the highest score, and the market booms, the smile never ends. A dad or a mom stands heart thrilled and with goose bumps when his kid is nationally or internationally acclaimed and honoured. It just depends on what kind of gain it is. When reward is equivalent to labour, when the ratio scale balances between input and output, when gain wipes away the backache of struggle, there is a ch

THE DISCIPLE

D a v i d   P a m   M c Q u e l LUKE 15:1 “I tell you, in the same way, there will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents than over 99 righteous people who don’t need repentance.” It is incredible when one soul finds salvation. There is great rejoicing in the presence of God for such a change. It is not merely forgiveness of sins. It is not merely a heavenly executive pardon. It is the mercy of God given to a man. However, conversion as beautiful as it is not the final product. It is true that a born again person in Christ is: 1. A new creature in Christ 2. Totally redeemed from spiritual death 3. The new convert is God’s own legitimate child. 4. the new believer finds life eternal and everlasting rest. The highest desire in the heart of God is that the believer grows beyond his confession and the free gift of salvation, to become a disciple. A disciple is one who has adopted the teachings of Christ: 1. To live by it 2. As absolute authori

THAT LOST SOUL

D a v i d    P a m   M c Q u e l As soon as human beings form communities, alliances are build and people associate based on priorities and values. These values define who they are and what their choices are. As a result, they follow paths and patterns that feed their preferences. It is true in social relationships as it is in spiritual communities. As Israel strayed away from the covenant of Abraham, as the Old Testament began to whine down to its end, the voice of God went silent, because the grain of wheat must die to bring forth the new. The Levitical Priesthood became prominent since the prophetic ministry depended on hearing God. That prophetic guidance was lost. Israel eventually depended on traditions built around her past experiences with God. Even though some of these traditions contradicted God’s revelation knowledge. The three arms of spiritual leadership in Israel was the High Priesthood, the Pharisees and the Sadducees and the Scribes were basically secretarial heads.

THE VALUE OF A SOUL

D A V I D   P A M   M c Q U E L Although it is clearly stated in Jesus’ last instructions before ascending back to the Father, yet one big problem among Christians who should be going to win the whole world is choosing who is more valuable to save than the other. Some years ago I met an old schoolmate who was really excited hearing that I was a missionary. He was curious to know if I was serving in the UK, Germany or the United States. When I told him I was serving in Ghana, he was evidently disappointed. Of course, his idea of a missionary with prestige was one who will serve in developed countries which will boost my status and respect among men. The truth is everyone missionary is sent by God. And God decides where everyone fits. It is never a choice about comfort or pleasure. It is giving up everything to reach those who badly need God. Jesus sent us to all mankind. In the business of salvation, there is no one soul more valued than the other. We have, as human beings all falle

THE CHURCH IS GOING THROUGH FIRE

By     D a v i d    P a m    M c Q u e l       Persecution Jesus taught extensively on persecution. Early church endured much persecution. In modern times and over the centuries, Christianity has endured unimaginable persecution. Persecution is neither new nor will it ever end. Remarkably, whenever the church compromises and weakens, persecution lessens. But with every advancement and outbreak of church growth come waves and types of persecutions, both individually and collectively. North Korea The main driver of North Korean Christian Persecution is the state. For three generations, everything in the country focused on idolizing the leading Kim family. Christians are seen as hostile elements in society which have to be eradicated. Due to the constant indoctrination permeating the whole country, neighbors and even family members are highly watchful and report anything suspicious to the authorities. Children are especially vulnerable to the heavy indoctrination. Reports sho

THE ONLY HOPE FOR WORLD

R o b e r t    C o l e m a n What is the greatest obstacle to Evangelism today? Some may think that it is the fear of how others will respond, or a feeling of being unqualified to answer the questions of friends who do not believe in Jesus. I believe the reason goes deeper than that. In North America, we have a society of people who generally have a sense of sufficiency in themselves. People do not feel a need for a relationship with God. The feel that they are getting along alright on their own, so they see no need for salvation. We also have a culture where, if people believe in God, they tend to fashion Him in their own image - with all of their human limitations. Everyone thus determines what they want to believe. Nothing is nailed down; people set their own standards, and truth becomes relative. Tolerance becomes the great virtue of society, and claims of authority based on the Word of God can make one look like a bigot. And it is just "the world" t
